Solution Design - How should BizTalk be used

Hello

I am new to Biztalk and we are currently entrusted with a project that needs an ESB based architecture. I am not sure if Biztalk is the right solution. Looking at some advice.

The client is a BPO firm and receives documents in the form of multi page tiff. File sizes range from 5 MB to 500 MB. They usually come at FTP locations (occasionally emails). We need to pick these tiffs, split them into single page tiff. From this point on each page is an individual message and needs to be tracked. This message is fed to a data capture application where operators will sit in front of LOB application and enter data as they see in the tiff file. There may be exception scenarios wherein the message needs to be routed to exception queues. There are 3-4 other LOB application that receive messages based on some bsuiness rules.

So is Biztalk generally for such applications? Yes? Now I was thinking that the large incoming tiff could be picked directly by Biztalk and a custom pipeline split it into individual pages and create a message for each page? Sounds good? Would Biztalk save the large file in message DB?? That would be sad.

Please advice.

Thanks

Arun
