I want to find BizTalk 2010 best practice articles related to when and how to use orchestration.

In my company, the architect is designing the new project, which will be implemented using BizTalk 2010. He designed dozens of orchestration processes and one process does very simple things, like log the action, change data status, call SQL stored procs, etc.. Each process is triggered by SQL query to see if there are any records returned. He uses BizTalk orchestrations to implement state machine. Each orchestration represents one state and based on BRE rules to move the state forward. I don't think it is good design. I want to get your experts' idea on this design and give me some best practice articles to prove my points.

Another question is if ESB itinerary is better approach to route message going through different states than implementing BTS orchestrations as state machine and storing states in our designed database. Please give me some advice and articles to support the points.

Thanks in advance!!!
